Joseph Bogdan, an esteemed architect and urban designer, earned his Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University, studying under Josep Lluis Sert and Fumiko Maki. He began his career at Prack & Prack Architects, where he designed the McMaster University Physical Education Complex. He then joined John B. Parkin Architects, becoming Head of the Urban Design Department and an Associate, contributing to notable projects such as the Toronto Sheraton Centre, the CN Pavilion for Expo 67, and the St John’s City Hall.

In 1969, Bogdan founded Joseph Bogdan and Associates (now BNKC), where he designed the award-winning Scarborough Bluffs Park and Marina Master Plan and the Chinguacousy Civic Centre. As master planner and Architect of Record, he oversaw the reconstruction of Old Fort William Ontario Provincial Park.

In 1975, he won the national design competition for the master plan of College Park, Toronto. This achievement led to the design of major urban design and architectural projects, including Hyde Park Village Mixed-Use Complex in Tampa, Florida, and The Galleries of Syracuse Mixed-Use Complex in Syracuse, New York. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Bogdan designed other significant projects such as the Halifax Forum Redevelopment, the City of Halifax Water Filtration Complex, and NATO Ship Repair Unit.

Until his retirement in 2015, Bogdan led the design of major projects like the Shanghai Shipping Centre tower, Bradford Library and Cultural Centre, Waterloo Town Square, the LiUNA Technical Training Centre, additions to prestigious schools in Toronto and urban design master plans in Berlin, Vienna, Prague, and the United Arab Emirates. He served on thesis juries, design award panels, and lectured on urban design, receiving over two dozen design awards for his work.

Joseph Bogdan now holds the title of Principal Emeritus at BNKC Architects Inc.
