Located at the southeast corner of Laing Street and Eastern Avenue, this new 14-storey mixed-use building contributes to the transformation of Toronto’s east end from a historically industrial area into a vibrant residential community. Designed by BNKC, the project provides 170 purpose-built rental units, retail spaces, and ground-oriented townhomes that activate the street edge and enhance the pedestrian experience.
The design balances functionality and livability through efficient unit layouts, a simplified material palette, and a strong architectural rhythm expressed in window wall, metal panel, and masonry elements. Addressing site constraints such as a high water table, the building incorporates at-grade parking and geothermal energy systems to promote sustainability.
Through community engagement and thoughtful urban integration, the project supports a growing neighbourhood with much-needed rental housing and a resilient design approach shaped by context and character.
