BNKC led the urban design services to support the redevelopment of a 29 hectare provincial property bound by Wilson Avenue, Keele Street, and Highway 401. The Redevelopment Master Plan of the Province of Ontario’s Downsview Campus for Infrastructure Ontario accommodates a new regional hospital facility (Humber River Regional Hospital), Forensics Services & Coroner’s Complex, training campus, as well as provincial offices.
The master plan significantly increased the built densities on the site. It included the modification of circulation patterns through the site, new major roadways, the expansion of pedestrian sidewalks, new public boulevards, and creation of a new public park. The central campus commons created a neighbourhood heart that links functions and engages the public. Multiple green spaces serve as sun-lit nodes for leisure use on campus.
The Redevelopment Master Plan involved detailed phasing analysis to guide the transformation of the area from endless asphalt parking lots to a vibrant and creative workplace.
